Fifth Week of Teaching Practice

Hi all,
This blog is about the classes taken after the December exams and Christmas. Its been a great week. Students came back to school after a refreshing vacation. They were able to grasp the subjects in their content.
Topic covered in this week:

  • Heat capacity of water,
  • Boiling Point of water,
  • Freezing Point of water.
    Heat Capacity of Water
    • Class began with the discussion on how water is used in radiator to regulate the heat in automobile engines and arrived at the concept of heat capacity of Water.
    • The below-shown video of heat capacity of water is shown to students.

    • Discussion points given:
      • Which of two temperature reaches a higher value in a specified time?
      • What happens to the temperature of water?
      • Students were able to understand that "Water has the ability to hold more heat (heat capacity) when compared to other substances."
    • Below shown slides were used to explain through PowerPoint slides.

    Boiling Point of Water
    • Class began an experiment. A student was given a beaker containing water and was asked to boil with the help of burner and thus arrived at a concept of boiling point of water.
    • Students were shown the video attached above explaining the boiling point of water.

    • Questions posed during discussion.
    • Students were able to understand the concept of boiling water. The below-shown slide is shown as a definition.

     Freezing of Water

  • Class began with a video of ice floating in Antarctica and discussion started on ice forming and about the density of water.

  • The below-shown slides were shown

    • Another activity was given to student by asking her to take three quarters of water in glass bottle and note the water level and was asked to freeze it. And was asked to observe it after sometime.
    • Students understood after observation  that when water is converted to ice its volume increases and density decreases.

This is all for the week. The next blog will be posted on 06/01/2020. Advance Happy New Year to all.
